KSSSA: Juma shines as ruthless Kakamega rout Boys Town
Former Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) football national champions Kakamega High kicked-off their quest for another national glory on a flying note, demolishing North Eastern representatives Boys Town 13-0.
Red hot Henrey Juma scored four goals in the match, the first in the 28th minute, only four minutes after a James Mazembe had netted the opener.
Juma capitalised on Town’s sluggishness on the defense to score his second in the 39th, before Mazembe and Gor Mahia target Alpha Chris grabbed one each in the 41st and 42 minutes.
Going to the break leading 5-0, Kakamega were under no illusion that a bumper harvest was awaiting them in the second stanza.
After the huge win, Kakamega’s coach Brendan Mwinamo charged eyes are on top prize and nothing less.
“The game was fine, scoring 13 goals was no joke. This championship is Kakamega’s to lose, just from the preparation we had before coming to Nyeri.
“We are not underrating any team though. What gives us confidence is the seriousness the team has shown. We have even under-16 players here and we are praying the end will be as good as the start,” Mwinamo said.
His opposite number Victor Mugendi blamed lack of concentration and bad weather for the loss, despite acknowleding Kakamega were a better side.
“My boys didn’t concentrate in the game. This weather is terrible for them although our opponents were better and deserved to win.
“We are adapting and have learnt something. Even if we lose in the other matches it won’t be such a humiliation,” Mugendi offered.
Upon the restart, Kakamega continued where they left with Marvin Odhiambo and Ronald Sichenje scoring the sixth and the seventh within the first five minutes.
Also on the score sheet was second half substitute Evans Odhiambo who grabbed a brace, in the 54th and 71st respectively. Juma’s third came at the hour mark before completing his day’s party three minutes later.
In another match, after a 2-0 half time lea, Eastern region representatives Kathungi Boys registered a 3-1 win over Tetu from Central.
Tetu were included in the event just a day before the kick-off after the disqualification of 2015 national champions Passenga after an appeal for fielding an eligible player in the regional games went through.
