KSSSA winners now train guns on EA Games

Kenyan teams will now turn their attentions on preparations for the forthcoming East African Schools Games in Rwanda after a scintillating national event in Eldoret.

Kakamega High School return to the Regional Games as the Kenyan champions after defeating debutants Olbosat 1-0 in the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA)Boys’ Under-19 final.

In the correswponding Girls’ category, Kwale were crowned the new national champions after thrashing AB Njenga 4-1 to clinch the title and will represent Kenya in Rwanda alongside fellow finalists and third playoff winner Nginda.

In Volleyball, three-time East Africa champions Kwanthanze retained their girls national gong after defeating Soweto of Nairobi by 3-0 straight set of identical 25-20 in the finals.

Kwanthanze, Soweto and Cheptil who clinched the third place after downing Bishop Sulumeti by 3-1 set will represent Kenya in Rwanda.

In Boys category Malava clinched this year’s edition title after defeating Rift Valley’s Kepkenyeloi by 3-0 straight sets with the two set for FEASSA assignment.

 

For Kakamega, head coach head coach Bredan Mwinamo said their debut participation in the country’s second-tier National Super League (NSL) played a big part in helping them reclaim the title they lastly won in 2014.

“It has been a long a journey and I thank my boys for doing it. This year was tough because our opponents from the start were tough and had prepared well for the competition,” Mwinamo told Citizen Digital.

The seasoned tactician who currently has led his side on position 14th on the log in the Second tier league says now his focus is the East Africa regional games in Rwanda from August 10-19.

“Last year we managed to finish position three in Uganda and I think we can do it this year. NSL is really helping us,” added Mwinamo.

Olbosat will also fly Kenya’s flag in Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSA) regional games as the national’s runners up with head coach Francis Muhambe shifting focus to Rwanda after their fairytale.

“I am very happy for my boys because making it to the finals and face Kakamega in the finals is not a joke. We have to focus now to the big task ahead of us. We can do it in Rwanda,” optimistic Muhambe told Citizen Digital.
