KVF boss Juma says all set ahead of Saturday poll

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Secretary General Ben Juma has asserted that the federation’s executive have verified all the contestants’ documents and it is all system go ahead of Saturday’s National elections to be held in Nairobi.

Juma predicted stiff competition will be witnessed this year where incumbent KVF President Waithaka Kioni will be vying for his second and final term against Dominion Volleyball Club founder Martin Ochieng.

The verification process has been unusually longer with the KVF keen to ensure all documents submitted are validated.

Juma will to defend his seat against the national beach volleyball team coach and former Nairobi Water women’s coach Patrick Owino.

Meanwhile, Kioni who doubles up as the second deputy vice president of the National Olympics Committee Kenya (NOCK) says his past record speaks for himself and he is optimistic of retaining his seat.

“Although this year’s election is tough what I have done for the sport is immense and I hope to win it again,” said Kioni who has stayed at the helm of KVF for 20 years.

A new constitution was put in place in 2014 that established two-term limits to all elected officials.

In his manifesto, Kioni’s opponent Ochieng has vowed to initiate a steady and progressive national youth volleyball development while also enhancing national and county government and corporate partnerships with the federations

Current KVF Vice President Martin Makokha will face competition from Kenya National Sports Council (KNSC) treasurer Charles Nyaberi and former national team player Phillip Maiyo.

In the first election under new constitution in 2014 Nyaberi lost to Makokha by a single vote in a closely contested affair.

Kenya Prisons’ women’s volleyball team manager David Kilundo has thrown his hat in the ring for the second vice president’s position.

Kilundo will compete against long-serving KVF Western branch chairman Ibrahim Efumbi, Jacob Onyimbi and incumbent Kipkemei Sirma.

In women’s vice president category the seat has attracted Kenya Prisons Rose Moturi and Mududa Waweru from Coast.

This exerscise comes a month after the federation conducted all its branches elections las month.
