KVF probing Malkia Strikers player passport saga

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has launched investigations following the mysterious disappearance of travel documents belonging to Malkia Strikers star Edith Wisa.

It is alleged Wisa’s passport maliciously plucked from her bag and then slipped back after the visa application window provided had already elapsed.

It effectively locked her out the Malkia Strikers’ travelling squad to Catania, Italy for their Inter-continental Olympic qualifiers set for this weekend.

According to the Malkia Strikers technical director David Lung’aho who is on a scouting mission in the ongoing Term Two national school games in Kisumu, the federation among other ways, will review the closed-circuit television cameras adding that it is a serious matter which has caught the federation’s attention.

“We have started our investigations and immediately after the team jets back we will summon the players also to dig into the matter to know who the culprit is. This is a very delicate matter which needs to be dealt with because we have championships coming soon and we do not the issue to affect us.

“Always the squad should have unity and if these divisions start to spring up then we are not on the right track at this time Cameroon among other countries have come of age in terms of volleyball growth,” Lung’aho warned.

The predicament will now see Malkia Strikers who jetted on Tuesday compete against world-beaters Netherlands, Italy, and Belgium without dependable player of Wisa, with only a single slot up for grabs at the 2020 Olympic Games.

“The team will for sure miss Wisa’s services because is one of our top guns in the squad,” he added.

The former Lugulu alumnus was fighting for a slot in her position alongside the fast-rising Kwanthanze ex-duo of Gladys Ekuru and Lorine Chebet. These two have since been selected by head coach Shaileen Ramdoo and Japheth Munala.

After Italy assignment, Malkia Strikers will head to Morocco on August 15-26 where they will be seeking to defend their 2015 All African Games title.
