Kwale County dominate Coast region games

The concluded Coast region ball games at Malindi High saw champions defending their respective titles with East African football queens Kwale Girls leading the way.

Kwale are on their way to Kisumu with another assignment of defending their National glory, with the finals set on July 29th. Kwale overcame a resilience St John’s Kaloleni in a derby final that was decided by a solo goal from Glady’s Chikophe.

Another team to have defended their Coast region title was Kaya Tiwi who have now won the netball title for a fifth straight year.

In a one-sided final, Tiwi beat St Charles Lwanga school of Mombasa 68-10, a win that was earlier predicted by their attacker Melda Oguda as ‘an obvious win.”

Speaking to Citizen Digital Oguda said, “We think we have finished our business. We want to get ready for the Kisumu finals and we are confident no one is going to stop us,’’ she noted.

St John’s Kaloleni on the side retained their Volleyball title as well as Shimoni secondary on the men’s volleyball.

The new champions in this year’s edition were Under 16 football Serani Secondary School who beat Kwale High School in a 4-3 thriller. Serani was down to three goals at the half time whistle but came back stronger after the breather to level matters before forcing the match to extra time in which they scored the winning goal in the final stages of the match.

The Shimba Hills Under 20 football team put on a splendid performance to ruthlessly tear Serani 3-0 to be crowned champions for a second consecutive year.

However, Shimba Hills were dealt with a major blow ahead of the National finals after head coach Ali Mwachaunga revealed to Citizen Digital that five of his key players suffered injuries to be accessed in due cause.

“My players have made it again (to win the title) but also I have five of them with injuries. As you have seen my goal machine Juma Ali had to be substituted because of an injury. We will look at them and see the way forward.”

Kwale County dominated the second term games with five of the seven overall Champions coming from their region.
