KWPL: Nyamuh puts Zetch on notice, Madira wary of City Queens threat

Vihiga Queens head coach Boniface Nyamunyamuh is bullish that they will see off Zetech Sparks in their Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) match scheduled for Sunday at Imani Stadium.

The four-time champions are currently placed third on the 12-team league with 28 points, nine behind the leaders Kenya Police Bullets, while Ulinzi Starlets are second with 29 points.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Nyamunyamuh said they have prepared well for the match and are keen to finish the season strongly despite struggling to regain top spot

“We will go to Imani Stadium to harvest maximum points. Zetech is a very good team which has been very hard to defeat, and we have only achieved that on a small margin - maybe 1-0 or 2-1. We were struggling to match our past sharpness because of our key players who decamped for greener pastures. Despite that, the morale is high in the camp. We are promising nothing but a win,” said the coach.

Nyamuh still believes they can defend their title if they win the remaining fixtures as well as two matches in hand.

“We have two matches in hand. Police and Ulinzi have played 15 matches and we have played 13, meaning if we win the matches, then we shall have closed the gap with a big percentage.

“I still believe we have the chance to defend the title and if we fail to achieve, we can finish among the top three.

Vihiga have been struggling in the league since losing their five crucial players - Marceline Wayodi (Kampala Queens, Uganda) Winnie Babirye (Makerere Queens, Uganda) Janet Bundi (Yanga Princess, Tanzania) and Martha Obatta (Sethu FC, India).

At the same time, Madira Soccer Assassins coach Francis Muhambe is wary of the threat posed by Nakuru City Queen in their Premier League match set for Saturday.

He has acknowledged that they are under pressure to rise from relegation zone, as they fight to keep their Premier League status.

"It is a tight game because everyone is fighting to avoid relegation. Nakuru Queens and Madira are all potential relegation candidates, which makes the fixture a tight one.

“Nakuru Queens are a big threat to big clubs. Even though we beat them 1-0 in the reverse fixture, they really stretched our defense. They are so dangerous especially when they attack from the wings because they have very fast outfield midfielders.

“We will try to contain them by spoiling their flare,” explained coach Muhambe, adding that they will need to be calm to execute their plan.

Muhambe is clear in his mind that the absence of star player Charity Mideo has been a reason for their slump in the league.

"The absence of Mideo due to injury has really affected us, we have fewer goals because of this but she may be available in the Bungoma Queens clash. We hope the available players will try and score in her absence."

Other fixture on Sunday will see Kibera Soccer Ladies playing Kenya Police Bullets at the Wolves den, Olooloitikosh in Kajiado as Bunyore Starlets will take on Bungoma Queens at Mumboha Grounds in Luanda.

Only one match will be played on Saturday, between the hosts Nakuru City Queens and Soccer Assassins.
