KWPL players, officials take Covid-19 jab

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Sports have on Tuesday facilitated the Covid-19 vaccination of Women Premier League players and officials.

This is in a move to allow the safe resumption of football in the country, after last month’s suspension by President Uhuru Kenyatta as a measure to curb the spread of the virus.

Kayole Starlet coach Joshua Sakwa has issued a rallying call to the government to bring back football in the country.

“This is a good initiative by the Federation and the Government as it gives the players a sense of hope in that football may return. Overall, training has been had and the girls really miss playing football hence I would like to plead with the government to allow the safe return of football,” pleaded Sakwa.

The Women Premier League allows the players to maintain match fitness and it is also a consistent feeder to the Kenya National Women team, Harambee Starlets, who are currently building up towards their vision to qualify for their first FIFA Women World Cup.

Gaspo Women, Kibera Soccer Ladies, and Kayole Starlet received the first batch of vaccines with the rest of the teams set receive their jab in phases.
