Lack of necessary travel documents is derailing the national under 20 football team’s preparations for their February 10 and 12 friendly matches in Dakar, Senegal.

Head Coach John Kamau on Wednesday called up 26 players to camp but has now warned the lack of passports affecting the majority of the squad could prove a major setback.

“We had little squad selection problems since most of these players are now regulars. We identified more promising players during the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) under 20 championships for reinforcement purposes.

“They all need passports for international matches so some might be forced back out of camp to apply for the same. It’s a major problem for us especially given even those players that played in the KPL championships lack these documents,” Kamau told Citizen Digital.

He now fears the players could have little time to gel as a unit.

“We leave early next week so you can tell how little the time we have is. We can’t leave everything to the federation, the players know if you are in the national team it is their duty to make sure they are ready,” he added.
