Ladies at it as KCB Road to the Masters brings good tidings in Ruiru

Golfing in the country will for a moment be shedding its “gentleman’s game” phrase – in the next few weeks, with women golfers from various clubs tussling for KCB Karen Masters ProAm slots.

Rightly so, the upcoming KCB Road To The Masters series which tees off at the 18-hole Par 72 Ruiru Sports Club course is set to whip-up the enthusiasm of lady amateur golfers with quite a lot at stake.

The lady winner at each of the five events will–alongside the men’s winner, overall winner, staff winner, KCB Customer guest and a wildcard picked from an array of the prize list- get the opportunity to play at the KCB Karen Masters Pro-Am.

The Karen Masters will make history on its second edition as it joins the prestigious Sunshine Tour which is one of the leading tours globally with its roots in South Africa.

KCB Marketing and Communication Director Angelac Mwirigi said the tournament remains their most visible vehicle to share the greatness of the sport. “The tournament is on course to becoming the pre-eminent professional competition in East Africa, and we expect a thrilling competition that will hopefully provide massive excitement for the fans.”

Lady Captain Veronica Mwaura who is currently playing off handicap 27 will face it off with the likes of Mary Muthoni (handicap 27) and Irene Wamoro playing off handicap 19 will also fight for slots.

KCB “Road to the Masters” is one of the few golfing events in the country with lots in store for ladies and it will be interesting just how the ladies will go about it in the tussle to win the category.

Meanwhile, holes 4, 8 and 14 have been earmarked to be the most challenging on Ruiru Sports Club course this weekend.

“Hole 8 will require lots of precision as it has a big dam and a thick bush on one side. As we are talking, the dam is filled to the brim meaning the fairway will be limited to the dam. It either you hit the dam or the water.

“Hole 14 boasts of the country’s longest Par 4 totaling 614 yards. This will actually test the golfers hitting skills as you have to hit big and straight on the fairway as it has serious roughs. Hole 4 is equally tricky in the sense that both sides of its fairway are sandwiched by a forest. The greens here are also sloppy so putting ability will be tested in totality,” said Club Captain Peter Mwaura, adding: “Tournament standards at Ruiru have been set and only the sky’s the limit this weekend. We anticipate quite some cutthroat competition from ladies who will be going neck and neck to secure Pro AM slots, so thrills and spills are guaranteed.”
