The league, endorsed by Football Kenya Federation (Mt. Kenya) and sponsored by the Zeitz Foundation, developed from the well-known biennial Laikipia Unity Cup (LUC), the patron of which is Samuel Eto’o.

The League is run from and involves the   Samuel Eto’o Laikipia Unity Football Academy, School and Environmental Education Centre, based in Laikipia County.
