Lame duck Kenya thrashed

Kenya men hockey team lost their second consecutive match in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt, losing 4-1 to the hosts.

The hosts took an early lead through Elnagga Ahmed in the second minute, before Elhady Amr doubled the lead eight minutes later.

Shaky defence from Kenya granted Egypt an opportunity to add the third goal through Gobran Houssam in the 50th minute.

Chase Sailors player George Mutiria pulled a consolation for Kenya in the 52nd minute but that did not last long as Gamal Ahmed added the fourth to all but condemn Kenya to their second defeat in the competition with six minutes remaining to time.

The Meshack Senge coached team is now last in the pool without a point in which the hosts Egypt are leading with six points from the two matches they have played.

The Kenyan side were beaten 3-0 by Ghana in their opening match.

Kenya’s next assignment is against an equally strong Nigeria on Wednesday.

With the pathetic performance, Kenya has but all lost the chance to qualify for the Men’s Hockey World Cup finals set for India next year.

In another contest, South Africa thrashed Nigeria 8-1 in their first match to move second on the pool with three points.
