Late Muhoroni penalty denies Zoo maiden KPL win

Struggling Zoo Kericho FC were denied a maiden Kenyan Premier League (KPL) win as Muhoroni Youth rallied from a goal down to hold the bottom-table side to a 1-1 draw at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium on Tuesday.

Midfielder Mike Madoya had given the hosts a 23rd minute lead from the spot before Robert Ouma cancelled his strike with the game’s second spot-kick late on to leave Zoo still searching for a first win in seven top flight matches.

The clash marked the start of KPL round seven with Madoya who was top scorer during last season’s National Super League (NSL) campaign leading Zoo to their second successive 1-1 draw.

The match had been scheduled to be staged at the Kericho Green Stadium but with the political temperatures sweeping across the country, and with party primaries set for the same venue, it was shifted to Afraha.

The club used Afraha as its home stadium during the opening rounds before the league management approved the Green Stadium as a venue capable of hosting top flight matches later in March.

They will tackle four-time KPL champions Ulinzi Stars in their next league duel with Muhoroni set to host titleholders Tusker FC in their next round of matches.
