Late Wolfsburg winner dents Bremen survival hopes

On-loan Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny scored for Schalke as they drew 1-1 with Union Berlin after Wolfsburg dealt a crushing blow to Werder Bremen’s battle for Bundesliga survival thanks to a 1-0 win.

Kenny, netting his second Bundesliga goal of the season, fired a 25-yard strike into the bottom corner.

Union Berlin had taken the lead through Robert Andrich in the 11th minute.

Earlier on Sunday, Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst’s 82nd-minute header gave them victory in Bremen.

Weghorst, left unmarked in the box, headed in Felix Klaus’s curling cross for his first goal in five games.

The result left second-bottom Werder Bremen six points adrift of Mainz in 15th place with four games to go.

Wolfsburg moved up to sixth in the table, two points above Hoffenheim.

Union Berlin sit seven points above the bottom two in 13th position, three places below Schalke.
