Leaky Pipeline plan Lung’aho prison break

Kenya Volleyball Federation’s technical director David Lung’aho could be plotting a return to Kenya Pipeline as head coach ahead of the new season, Citizen Digital has learnt.

Sources privy to the talks between the decorated tactician and his former club, intimate the deal could be finalized this week.

Lung’aho who won two continental titles with Pipeline in 2004 and 2005 has neither denied nor confirmed the reports with sources pointing out that negotiations are at an advanced stage.

“Anything can happen but for now my focus is on Prisons men ahead of the new season because we want to end GSU dominance in KVF league,” said Lung’aho.

At the same time, fast-rising national women’s volleyball team left attacker and Kenya Prisons star Sharon Chepchumba, is closing in on a switch to rivals Pipeline ahead of the new season.

Kenya Pipeline relinquished their domestic title to the Wardress finishing third hence missing this year’s African Club Championship, and are not leaving anything to chance with promising Chepchumba their top target as they bid to bolster their squad.

Speaking to the Citizen Digital, the former Kwanthanze Secondary School player confirmed talks are ongoing; a pointer a deal could be in the offing.

“Yes, I will be joining Pipeline by Tuesday (tomorrow) and for the last three weeks we have been holding talks with them. I think their terms are better for me and I am ready to help the club recover their lost glory this year,” he said, adding: “I had three deals; from KCB, Pipeline and one from Tunisia but after evaluating the three I think Pipeline offers the best for me.”

Chepchumba who starred in her maiden appearance for Malkia Strikers last year during FIVB World Championship held in Japan, has not reported back to the Prisons camp that started training early this month ahead of busy year with KVF league and African Club Championship on cards.

The African six time champions were handed a big blow last year after losing seven players and head coach Japtheth Munala to rivals KCB.

Those who made for the exit door were Noel Murambi, Violet Makuto, Leonida Kasaya, Truphosa Samoei, Veronica Tanui, Jemimah Siangu and Christine Njambi.
