Legend Dawo denies claims he’s detained at hospital over bill

Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia legend Peter Dawo has denied reports that he’s been detained at Kijabe Medical Centre over unpaid medical bills.

Dawo, who featured in the 1988 and 1990 Africa Cup of Nations, underwent a knee surgery last week but says all, is well with him, scoffing at claims he’s been detained at the facility over huge medical arrears.

Dawo’s treatment cost Sh 459,892

“I have not been detained, the federation is organizing on how to sort the bills and all is well, those spreading such propaganda have ill intentions,” Dawo who is best remembered for the magic header he scored that handed Gor Mahia the Nelson Mandela Cup, now renamed the Caf- Confederations Cup, told Citizen Digital from his hospital bed.

He added: “The operation went on well last Thursday and at the moment I have started my physiotherapy. I thank God and everyone who made it possible. I’m really grateful for the help.”

The K’Ogalo legend alongside John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla, Abbas Magongo, Austin Oduor, among others, inspired the team to lift the Mandela Cup at a sold-out Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on December 5, 1987 after a sweet-two-leg victory over Tunisian powerhouse Esperance.

At the same time, FKF’s Communications and Public Relations Manager, Barry Otieno, told Citizen Digital that plans are underway to clear the legends bill.

“All is well with Dawo, we are organizing how we will pay his bills, we are finalizing a few details and we hope to be through with it as soon as possible” said Otieno.
