Leopards are tearing opponents apart my way Zapata

AFC Leopards head coach Rodolfo Zapata has praised his charges for finally nailing his offensive style of play, following the 4-2 win over Nakumatt FC in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.

Ingwe took their record against Nakumatt to three wins in four matches having beaten the Shoppers in both legs in their first season-scoring a total of seven goals in the process and now the tactician feels his side is learning his tactics well.

“My boys are doing exactly what we are doing in training. I want us to play attacking football and on Sunday we did exactly that, keeping our top-three finish focus on course,” the Argentina-born coach told Citizen Digital.

The inform thirteen-time KPL champions have won three consecutive matches sit third on the log with 45 points, three adrift second-placed  Bandari.

Their next assignment is against Thika United who were humbled by Wazito 3-1 in weekend.

Elsewhere, with finally getting back to their winning ways following 2-1 triumph against Kariobangi Sharks after two winless outings, Mathare United head coach Francis Kimanzi now is shifting his focus on a top four finish in the league.

The 2008 champions went to the Sunday’s match in Kasarani with two consecutive defeats; against Ingwe (2-1) and ninth placed Sony Sugar (2-0).

“It has been tough three weeks but now we are back to winning games. I have fixed my weaknesses in the team especially in defense because in the last four games we have conceded eight goals. My target remains a top-four finish in the league standings,” the seasoned tactician told.

The former now lie sixth on the KPL standings with 38 points after 26 games level with fifth placed Ulinzi Stars who lost against spot-on Sony Sugar on Sunday.

The latter downed the defense men 1-0 in their home turf Afraha Stadium to win their fourth consecutive KPL match, the recent wins putting them 9th on the table with 33 points.

Bandari, who finally ended league leaders Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run on Tuesday last week continued with their fine form edging 2016 champions Tusker 1-0 in Ruaraka to keep the runaway leaders on check.

The dockers now sit second with 48 points, 11 adrift K’ogalo who play later on Monday against Kakamega Homeboys.
