AFC Leopards Soccer Club and head coach Patrick Aussems deserve to be crowned the team and coach of the week respectively, club legend Charles Okwemba has said.

Ingwe and their head coach, Belgium Aussems, were on Tuesday feted by the league management body, just hours after their weekend 1-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars.

The weekend win over City, was Leopards third win on the bounce and ex- Leopards midfield maestro, Okwemba, reckons that the award is deserved.

“It’s because of the hard work they have put in to get those results(that they were feted). The team is doing well and are in the right direction which deserves appreciation,” Okwemba explained. “But a club of Leopards stature should aim to lead as others follow and so this is the season of much expectations.”

Okwemba has however suggested that the real title hopefuls will be known after match day 22 to 24, five or seven matches into the second round.

“They are in pole position to put pressure at the top and eventually topple those teams ahead of them, “he said . “However it is still early to predict who is serious and capable of running away with the title until we stretch to match day 22 to 24, five matches or seven”, Okwemba said.

Leopards will confront Vihiga United in their next fixture after the international break, at the Mumias Sports Complex.
