Leopards boss Matano eyes Stima ace Marita

AFC Leopards head coach Robert Matano has expressed his admiration for Western Stima ace Brian Marita Arasa.

The winger was a standout figure in Stima’s 2017 campaign but his exploits were insufficient to prevent his side from getting relegated.

Matano who has been rumoured to be plotting a move for Ulinzi Stars hitman Stephen Waruru admitted his keen interest in the quick-footed youngster.

“Marita is a good player. We’re not necessarily trying to go for him because Stima were relegated but we have our scouting who will look into his matter very soon,” Matano told Citizen Digital.

Stima confirmed the player they touted as the ‘best upcoming offensive players in the country’ has already attracted offers from top Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clubs.

Marita insisted he remains committed to Stima but refused to rule out a move away from the relegated side.

“Last season it was rumored that AFC Leopards was interested in me. However, I haven’t received any offers yet; I just want to take some time and think. I love it here but I cannot state whether or mot I’ll be here in February. I leave that to God,” he said.

Marita was part of the 39-man provisional KPL All Stars squad that had been assembled for the landmark clash against Hull City in February but missed the final cut.

This season the former West-Kenya FC player scored two goals as Stima dropped to the second-tier having finished 17th on 38 points.
