Leopards fans want Imbalambala back at The Den

Former AFC Leopards skipper Martin Imbalambala is open to a Biblical Prodigal Son’s return to the club, in response to a fiery social media campaign from Ingwe fans urging the club to bring back the former captain and defender to the Den.

Despite ditching the Ingwe in the closed-season when the club was going through a crippling cash-crunch there seems to be no love lost yet between the 27-year-old and his devoted followers following his move to Kakamega Homeboyz.

Hundreds of fans sent out  appeals to Belgian Coach Ivan Minnaert to re-sign the towering defender Ingwe social media forums and  media pages for the better part of Wednesday afternoon, prompting a reaction from Imbalambala.

“If they want me back I will not hesitate,” the defender who now captains Ingwe’s regional rivals,  Homeboyz told Citizen Digital.

While the defender refused to answer further questions on the possibility of making a sensational return to the Den, supporters made their feelings known.

“Aaa! Let’s forget that and give him the chance,” urged Joshua Musungu Barasa on ‘AFC  LEOPARDS FACEBOOK FANS RELOADED ON FIRE’.

“Let him come back. He’s the best defender in Kenya as for now,” asserted Jensen Lwangu Lwangu on the same platform.

“He will deliver more than before,” added Godfrey Kisienya, his message clearly aimed at luring Ivan into considering a move for the player.

“Captain fantastic anyday!” wrote Adagala Johnfly.

Those who attempted to row in the different direction were quickly roasted to silence as the push to see their former captain don the blue jersey once again on condition Imbalambala commits his long term future with the club gathered momentum.

“For me he was the best defender. He has to commit if he at all comes back. And if the coach backs the move then I’m 110% behind him,” wrote Dulle Ozilingwe.

Former Leopards and Harambee Stars Coach James Nandwa gushed about the defender, saying he was the bed-rock of his 2013 Ingwe team that finished second behind arch rivals Gor Mahia.

“I haven’t been watching him a lot this year but he was my man at Ingwe. He was very reliable at center back position and even at his preferred defensive midfield role. Once or twice he popped up with important goals so I loved having him in my team,” said Nandwa, who now coaches SPL side Thika United.

AFC Leopards are on road to winning the SportPesa Premier League, a trophy they last lifted in 1998 after a strong start to the 2016 campaign and the fan message for Coach Minnaert is that Imbalambala could be yet be that missing link.
