Leopards forward Oburu set to leave club

Vincent Oburu’s three-year stint at AFC Leopards is coming to an end after the forward turned down a new contract offer.

Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda has confirmed that Oburu, who rose from the Leopards junior ranks three years ago as a promising youngster, will leave the club.

Shikanda paid tribute to the player as ‘one of the pillars’ of the current Leopards squad.

“We cannot confirm because so far no club has asked to sign him and again the transfer has just opened. Though he has only rejected our new contract extension offer and so we are not sure if he has left or not.

He has refused to answer our calls,” Shikanda said.

Attempts to reach Oburu proved futile as our calls went unanswered.

Leopards have been persuading the dependable winger to extend his stay at the Den but their efforts have failed to bear any fruits

The club has so far renewed the contracts of striker Elvis Rupia and defender Collins Sichenje.

According to Shikanda, the transfer window will help him to strengthen his squad by roping in three to five players with experience a priority so as to inject leadership into the youthful side.

Leopards have stretched their long league title drought for two decades since 1998 creating room for their bitter rivals Gor to overtake them in the domestic titles to 17, five more than the former.

The club honchos under the leadership of Shikanda who were elected in office last year are under immense pressure to gift Leopards fans with a first league title in 22 years to convince them to re-elect them.
