Leopards game another mountain to climb Okoth

Vihiga United head coach Sammy Okoth sees AFC Leopards as another mountain to climb when the two sides clash in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL)match at Mumias Sugar Sports Complex this Saturday.

The tie was pushed back to allow Kenya to play a number of friendly matches for AFCON preparations and Okoth is not expecting things to be easy after the break.

“We are preparing well but all the matches we’ve played have not been easy. Leopards fixture is equally a tough assignment for us.

Our points are a sign that we must put in a lot of effort if we still want to be relevant in the league,” Okoth said.

The Vihiga county sponsored side lost strikers Alex Imbusia and Ben Simiyu to Sofapaka and KCB respectively hence weakening the forward line according to Okoth.

“Instead of making additions to my squad, we lost our two top strikers Alex Imbusia and Ben Simiyu to KCB.

That has made our work not easy but we are using the ones I have to try and amass points which will help us in the league,” he explained.

However, the former Zoo FC tactician is confident that his boys will push for a top 10 slot.

“We still retain our target of finishing in the top ten bracket and I believe it is possible if we do everything we need to do.

If you look at the table you will arrive at a conclusion that the margin is not big and just two wins in a row can lift someone to a better position. That translates to our league being so competitive and one should not be losing points at the expense of other teams,”Okoth concluded.

United are position 16, a point above automatic relegation zone and have played two matches more than bottom placed Mathare United and Zoo FC Sofapaka.
