Leopards hire Czech coach Trucha as Mbungos replacement

AFC Leopards have settled on Czech Republic coach Tomas Trucha as their new tactician.

Trucha, 49, is already in the country and taking charge of AFC Leopards training in Iten, Citizen Digital can authoritatively report.

The Czech coach is understood to have jetted in last Friday and immediately travelled to Iten to link up with the squad and has been hard at training, gauging the playing unit ahead of the new season.

The club leadership has however maintained a studious silence on Truch’s arrival.

Confirming the coach’s engagement with the team, AFC Leopards football operations manager Tom Juma said he’s enthusiastic that the new coach who is set to succeed Rwandese Casa Mbungo is the ”perfect fit” to fire Ingwe to league glory.

“The coach is new but we are working with him very well and we want to accord him all the supported required to ensure that he can be comfortable to execute his job smoothly, ”Juma said.

Juma is confident that the 49-year-old coach who prior to his role at Leopards had been with Botswana giants Township Rollers, will steer the Leopards to success going by the rich history surrounding the team.

Anthony Kimani who’d filled the boots upon the resignation of Casa Mbungo last year is expected to remain as his deputy.

“All is well in the camp as we do our very best to extract the best out of these players. So far so good and everything is okay. Players are gelling as we evaluate the different combinations that can suit them,”Juma added.

Leopards announced the signing of winger Harrison Mwendwa and goalkeeper John Oyemba –  all from Kariobangi Sharks, and Burundian striker Bienvenue Shaka from Tunisian giants Etoile Sportif.

The new coach together with the new signings are expected to be unveiled on Thursday.
