Leopards joy as state-of-the-art bus docks in Mombasa

AFC Leopards could be going through one of its most trying financial times but there is every reason to smile as the Government has purchased a team bus for the club.

During the team’s fundraiser held October 31 last year, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa said that the president had given a directive to the Sports ministry to purchase a team bus for the club and it seems the pledge has been honoured.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, club Chairman Dan Shikanda said that the newly imported bus has already arrived in the country adding that it will be in Nairobi soonest upon completion of clearance procedures at the port of Mombasa.

“Yes, we are expecting to have a new bus which has already arrived in the country. It is undergoing some clearances before it is handed to us,”Shikanda said.

God willing,  by next week latest we’ll start using our new bus which is a motivation to players, technical bench and the office,”he added.

The chairman has told well wishers to keep up the spirit of supporting the team adding that it is even sweeter that the government has decided to support the club through such a move.

“The old bus still belongs to AFC Leopards and we shall sit down and discuss amongst us although as per to me I want to say that we have a youths team (Ingwe Cubs) and it will be prudent if we give them so as to solve transport problems for them,”Shikanda elaborated.

At the same time Shikanda hailed the playing unit for being patient in the trying moments with the players  going for five months without salaries.

Meanwhile, the chairman has also noted that the club has opened the registration of club members for the year 2020 at a fee of Ksh1,200 which is aimed at keeping the club afloatbefore they land a sponsor.

The 12-time champions are at position seven and are scheduled to tackle Kisumu All Stars this weekend in a league match in Kisumu.
