Leopards limp back to training after derby waterloo

After being clobbered 4-1 in Sunday’s Mashemeji derby, AFC Leopards are set to resume training tomorrow to sharpen their claws ahead of their league clash with Bandari FC on November 21 at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.

Despite the weekend defeat, Leopards can still end their title drought that has stretched to 21 years.

After the weekend win, the big cats are placed at position seven with 15 points, just three adrift of leaders Gor Mahia and with 75 points still to fight for, there is every reason for them to be upbeat if they quickly bounce from the disappointing weekend result.

Head coach Andre Casa Mbungo can’t wait for tomorrow’s session.

“The boys have  had two days of rest – yesterday and today so we are set  to resume (training) tomorrow (Wednesday).

We have to prepare for the next fixture against Bandari and I have the confidence that we can finish on top this season despite the derby defeat,” the soft spoken Rwandese said.

Victory for Ingwe over eternal rivals Gor Mahia  at the weekend could have catapulted them to the league summit but Mbungo who signed at the den last year is adamant that the remaining matches will play a bigger role in determining who have the final laugh last at the end of this season.

Leopards is set to play a friendly match over the weekend in the international break with club’s releasing their players to play for their national teams in the African Nations Cup qualifiers .

Kenya Harambee Stars will play Egypt in the first qualifying match on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria before facing Togo  four days later on Monday at the MISC Kasarani.

Leopards have two players in the Stars squad in John-Mark Makwata and mid fielder Wyvonne Isuza.
