Leopards recapture Were on one-year deal, Makwatta in as well

Kenyan international winger Paul Were has rejoined AFC Leopards on a one-year deal. Also joining the den is former Ulinzi Stars forward John Mark Makwata and defender Washington Kisaka Munene who beat the transfer deadline last night to ink a deal.

Chairman Dan Shikanda confirmed the signing of the three with Were penning down a one-year renewable contract depending on his performance.

Makwata, 28, who was also on Gor Mahia’s radar, joins Ingwe as a free agent from Kuwait with Munene agreeing a one-year contract on loan from Wazito FC.

“I managed to sign Makwata last night before the midnight deadline with left full back Munene signing from Wazito after showing intention to play for us.

‘We have also brought in Paul Were to strengthen the wing since that was our week point in the few matches we have played,”Shikanda asserted.

Other players who have signed for Leopards are midfielder Clyde Sinaji from Tusker, who has penned a two-year contract while young goalkeeper Maxwell Wasike has agreed a four-year contract to keep him at the den until 2023.

The former Kakamega High School student left Kakamega Homeboyz and was a free agent. He’ll be the third choice keeper behind Ugandan Benjamin Ochan and Ezekiel Owade.

Shikanda warned that the team is now strong with the additional recruits, and ready for the season.

“We are now sharp in all departments and ready to cause havoc, our main target is to win this season’s title,” he asserted.
