Leopards sign Burundian Kitenge, Ugandan Kizito on the way

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) record champions AFC Leopards have completed the signing of Burundian striker Alexis Kitenge on a two-year deal.

Kitenge signed the deal on Thursday, with another signature of  budding Ugandan striker Keziron Kizito formerly of SC Vipers in the offing.

According to Leopards chairman Dan Mule, the two are part of the three international players Ingwe has been courting to bolster the squad before the second leg of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) kicks off.

“We have been tracking Kitenge and Kizito because they are the kind of strikers who can settle fast and get you goals.

“Kitenge was the top scorer in the just concluded Burundian topflight league and he’s ready for the new challenge. As for Kizito, he is a young player but very tactically mature, so the variety that has been lacking in the attack has been sorted out,” Mule told Citizen Digital.

The players will be in the country until Monday next week, when they travel to their respective countries to prepare before returning for the second leg.

Mule also revealed two more players will be added to the current playing unit, underscoring they are racing to get the house in order, early ahead of the league’s second leg.

“We have to finish the business of the new additions early enough so that they gel with the rest of the players before the end of the June break.

“I can’t give details about the other two but they will be announced soon,” stated the Chairman.

Interestingly, Kitenge has already trained with the Ingwe, and ‘feels part of the Ingwe family’.

“I have attended training sessions for the past four days, and I’m already looking forward to a great time at Leopards.

“I know there is going to be competition for the attack positions but I believe I will make the first team and continue doing my thing here,” Kitenge told.

While Ingwe strikers have been quite blunt this season so far, Kitenge and Kizito will have to fight for positions against Ghanian Gilbert Fiamenyo and Pual Mungai Kiongera among other developing attackers once they are cleared to feature for the tem.

Fiamenyo and Kiongera have both netted three goals each. The new signings will however have to wait until June 1 when the transfer window officially opens, to have their International Transfer Certificates (ITC) processed.
