Leopards to launch Cup defence against Shabana as Gor land Assad

Domestic Cup holders AFC Leopards will begin their defence of the Shield against third-tier side Shabana FC.

Leopards won the knock-out tournament last year after beating Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 in the final and will be keen to go all the way to add silverware to their trophy cabinet, when they launch their quest on the weekend of June  1-3.

In the draws done on Monday in Nairobi, league champions Gor Mahia were pitted against SS Assad; Tusker drew Taita Taveta FC while Kakamega Homeboyz will begin their Cup quest against Asec FC.

Sofapaka who had had an impressive run in the competition winning three crowns in 2007, 2010 and 2014 — will attempt to win the Cup again when they begin their hunt against one-time giants Reunion.

Winners will take home Sh. 2 million, runners-up Sh. 1 million, while third and fourth place finishers will contend with Sh 750,000 and Sh 500,000 respectively .
