Leopards will rise from the defeat to reclaim its spots: Isuza

AFC Leopards captain Whyvonne Isuza is hopeful that the team will rise from the round one defeat suffered in the hands of Kakamega Homeboyz to challenge for honours.

Leopards fell 0-1 to Homeboyz in Sunday’s tough duel staged at the Bukhungu Stadium with Stephen Etyang’s goal in the 85th minute making the difference, and Isuza, one of the crucial players in the Casa Mbungo coached side has elected to see the brighter side of things.

“The game was good, we started badly in the first 15 minutes and we were lucky not to concede, but from the 20th minute we came back in the game, even the goal came at a time we were on top of the game,” he regretted.

“We will work on our mistakes and hopefully do well against Kariobangi Sharks in our next game,” he told Citizen Digital.

The 12-time Kenyan Premier League champions badly struggled last season finishing at position 11 on 45 points, a far cry from the giants they should be.

Isuza, an attacking midfielder is however confident the new additions that coach Casa Mbungo brought in the transfer window will help them become a better unit.

“We have a good squad, some of the players are new to this league but they are good. I cannot say that we are strong psychologically, because we have some in-house issues to deal with and on top of that the new players need time to adjust, but we will get their slowly,” he said.

Ingwe performed poorly in preseason, their most recent defeat coming against Yanga SC of Tanzania in a friendly played in Arusha. They beat amateur side St Peters Mumias High School 2-0 and lost 1-0 against National Super League side Talanta FC.

Isuza says the Sunday’s defeat in the hands of Nicholas Muyoti’s men is already behind their backs and they will prepare well to beat Kariobangi Sharks in a fortnight.

“I am positive we will mount a comeback and challenge for the title,” said Isuza when asked if he believed they can mount a serious challenge in the league.
