Leos, Nakuru take Kenya Cup playoff scrap to the wire

Two teams will be scrambling for the last remaining Kenya Cup play-off slot as the competition’s league phase reaches its final round on Saturday.

With five of the six available places already taken, Strathmore Leos RFC and Top Fry Nakuru RFC will each have one last swing at a playoffs position although the former hold the advantage.

Leos are placed sixth on 25 points, three ahead of Nakuru and a win against Menengai Cream Homeboyz will all but seal their playoff status.

Homeboyz will present a tough opposition for Leos as they ambitions of their own, as they seek to secure a semi-final slot with a victory over the hosts in Madaraka.

On the other hand, Nakuru have an away trip to Stanbic Mwamba RFC knowing any sort of defeat will have them locked out of the Top Six. For hosts Mwamba, the clash is a dead rubber match as their top flight status is already guaranteed yet a Top Six place is mathematically out of reach.

In other games of the across the country, third-placed Kabras Sugar RFC will off to sign off in style with a win over Blak Blad following their 41-12 humbling defeat to KCB RFC last weekend.

Already relegated Resolution Kisii and Regional Logistics Mombasa will face each other for their last game in the top flight; both teams were relegated after just one season in the top flight.

Nondescripts RFC will be at home against fifth-placed Kenya Harlequins at the Jamhuri Showgrounds. The Quins have already qualified for the playoffs by virtue of being in the top six team’s bracket.
