Lidonde and Mwangi axed in Leopards restructuring plan
Under pressure Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side, AFC Leopards has fired its goalkeepers’ trainer Alex Mwangi and team manager Tonny Lidonde, Citizen Digital has learnt.
This comes in the wake of a series of woeful results registered by the team in the league this season. Lidonde has also confirmed his departure from the team and wished the club well for the remainder of the season.
“I am no longer in the team. My stay has come to an end prematurely but I want to wish the team well for the remaining matches of the season.
“I pray the team can get back to winning ways soon, because Leopards is my club. I played here, coached and I have been a team manager so my attachment to the club is so strong,” Lidonde told.
He joined Ingwe in October 2016 as part of coach Stewart Hall backroom staff, while Alex joined Leopards in January 2017.
Meanwhile, Leopards have decided to go for a local coach to head the technical bench, making Tom Juma who is at the helm on a caretaker basis the most likely candidate.
The club’s Secretary General Oscar Igaida has held that the choice for a local has been arrived because of the experience and the knowledge of the players he has in KPL.
“As at now I can categorically say that we will go for a local solution for a local problem and I believe that we shall be able to sort it out.
“We shall go for a highly placed tactician, disciplined with a track record of delivering results,” Oscar charged.
Igaida has reiterated that the club is still targeting a top-five finish in the topflight table this year, despite the so far poor run.
“We have rolled in a few new strikers because there has been a big problem in the department. The changes we are making are touching every area we have been struggling, because we must regain our rhythm pretty fast.
It is not clear when the expanded official technical bench will be announced after the club’s executive delayed the announcement that was set for Tuesday.
