The much awaited Kenya Cup campaign gets underway on February 27 after the government approved the return of the sport, Kenya Rugby Union has said.

Rugby which is considered one of the sports with high physical contact has not been played since March last year following a government ban on sports following the Covid-19 pandemic.

And as a result of the government greenlight, Championship playoffs will be played on Saturday, February 6, with Mean Machine hosting Egerton Wasps while USIU colliding with Northern Suburbs.

The semi-finals ties will follow a week later with last year’s championship winners Strathmore Leos who won the regular season on 76 points hosting either USIU or Northern Suburbs while runners up Masinde Muliro University will battle it out against either Mean Machine or Egerton Wasps.

However, there will be no finals with the finalists being promoted to the Kenya Cup.

On Saturday, February 20 there will be a Charity Cup which will see last year’s Kenya Cup champions KCB facing off with the Enterprise Cup champions Kabras Sugar B.

The regular league will kick off a week later.

All fixtures will be played in adherence to existing Covid-19 protocols with no spectators in attendance.
