Like old wine, Wanga gets better with age as he leads Golden Boot chase

The culmination of Kenya Premier League’s round 16 has drawn the battle line for the prestigious top scorer accolade as the crème de la crème of the Kenyan League battle to outdo each other in a seemingly tight race.

Allan Wanga’s brace in Kakamega Homeboyz’ 6-0 triumph over Mt. Kenya United on Saturday moved him to the top of the 2018/2019 season top scorers log with 8 goals. Even so, Ugandan Kasumba Umaru of Sofapaka and Ochieng’ Enosh of Ulinzi stars who have seven goals each are giving the Homeboyz’ talisman a run for his money .

The Ugandan spiced his quest for the golden boot when he netted a late penalty to earn Sofapaka a slim 1-0 over KCB on Sunday and consequently take his goal tally to seven, one adrift of Allan Wanga .

Ulinzi’s Enosh Ochieng’ on the other hand who  has been a bright spark for the four-time Kenyan Premier League champions, is equally a force to reckon with having netted seven out of the team’s eleven goals.

Ochomo Wycliffe and Nyakeya cliff of Bandari and Mathare United respectively are placed third with five goals each after which eleven players tie at position four with four goals each.

They include, Kakamega Homeboyz’ Peter Thiong’o and Maxwell Ravel, Nzoia Sugar’s Ochieng’ Hansel, Avire John of Sofapaka, Mount Kenya United’s Peter Amani, Gor Mahia’s Erisa SSekisabu and Kipkurui Nicholas, Mathare’s Kevin Kimani and Oduor Chrispine, Sony Sugar’s Otanga Derrick, and Bandari’s Yema Mwana,

Last season’s winner Eric Kapaito whom netted 16 goals is facing a black out this season with only one goal to his name.
