Lionesses show no mercy, maul Uganda in World Cup qualifier

Kenya Lionesses on Tuesday whitewashed Uganda Lady Cranes 37-5 in their second match of the 2021 Women’s World Cup qualifiers played at the Bosman Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
After outshining Madagascar 35-5 in their opening match, Felix Oloo charges scored six tries; converting two plus a penalty against Uganda’s unconverted try.
Janet Okello scored a brace while Grace Adhiambo scored one plus a penalty with Staycy Atieno, Philadelphia Olando and Sheila Chajira also touching down.
It was a repeat of Elgon Cup final where Kenya won 79-19 on aggregate to win the cup.
Kenya led 3-0 at halftime after Grace Adhiambo had drilled in the three points through a penalty.
Janet Okello won the ball after a successful maul running to the right corner scoring Lionesses first try but the conversion went wide.
Adhiambo then dummied and sliced through her defenders, off-loading the ball to Okello to land her brace with Adhiambo converting it to make it 15-0.
Uganda had a chance to score a penalty after an infringement by Lionesses but they fired wide.
Stacy Atieno then landed Kenya her third try after Okello generously passed the ball to her with the conversion sailing wide to give Kenya a 20-0 lead.
Uganda scored a consolation try with the conversion going wide to make it 20-5.
Adhiambo ensured she too went on the score sheet bagging the fourth for a 25-5 lead, before skipper Philadelphia Olando added another, both conversions going wide.
Lionesses weren’t’ done yet, Sheila Chajira adding another, the sixth, with Janet Owino sealing the match with a conversion to make it 37-5 at full time.
Kenya will now take on host South Africa on Friday at 4 pm in their final group match.
