Liverpool sacks Brendan Rodgers as Manager

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had his contract terminated moments after the Reds drew 1-1 against Everton at Goodison Park.

In a joint Fenway Sports Group statement, Principal Owner John W. Henry, Chairman Tom Werner and President Mike Gordon said: “We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Brendan Rodgers for the significant contribution he has made to the club and express our gratitude for his hard work and commitment.”

The statement added: “Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch. Ambition and winning are at the heart of what we want to bring to Liverpool and we believe this change gives us the best opportunity to deliver it.”

Rodgers was defiant in the post match press conference saying he felt no pressure and felt ‘nothing but secure’.

“I don’t feel any pressure whatsoever. I can honestly say that. And you guys have seen me now for a while. I think there is pressure to sell newspapers, I think there is pressure to make stories in the media and I understand and respect that because that’s your lives and that’s your jobs. For me my job is to worry about the team and that is the only pressure that I will ever feel,” said Rodgers.

Jurgen Klopp and Frank de Boer have both been linked with the Liverpool job in recent weeks.
