Losing start for Shujaa at Sydney Sevens

The national sevens team Shujaa got their Sydney tour off to a foul start as they went down 7-5 to Argentina at the Australian east coast city on Friday.

Argentina took a 7-0 lead into the breather thanks to Gaston Revol’s converted try prompting a tactical substitution from head coach Innocent Simiyu as he brought on Andrew Amonde for Dan Sikuta.

That change yielded positive results as the KCB RFC flanker overpowered Argentinean Fernando Luna at the 22-yard box to score after a series of swift passes from the Shujaa.

Brian Tanga was unfortunate not to slot in the conversion the scores remaining at 7-5.

Menengai Cream Homeboyz star Jeff Oluoch tried his luck with a piece of individual play, kicking the ball overhead the charging defence.

His run was however intercepted inside the 22-yard and with no support from his teammates forthcoming, he was forced into a turn over.

Simiyu tried to bring in new faces to the game in the dying minutes but it was too late for the Shujaa side going down to the title contenders.

Kenya next face France on Saturday before finalizing the day’s proceedings against Wales in the last of their group ‘B’ fixtures.

The loss leaves Shujaa at a delicate position and will have to win the two remaining games and hope Argentina falter in their remaining games if they stand any chance of qualifying for Sundays Cup quarters.
