Machakos crowned 2017 KICOSCA football champs

Hosts Machakos County Executive football men team defeated Nairobi 3-0 in the finals to win this year’s KICOSCA edition on Saturday at Machakos Teachers Training College grounds in Machakos.

Machakos started the tie on a high note when defender Michael Mutisya nearly scored on the second minute through a corner and their efforts paid off in the 16th minute when unmarked Martin Mumo smashed in the opener, capitalizing on poor defending from their opponents.

Throughout the first half the hosts proved too strong with the front line missing numerous chances while Nairobi failed to create any meaningful scoring chance in the time.

Mutiso Edward added the second rounding off the Nairobi goalkeeper in the 56th minute of the second half after receiving a world class cross from Fredrick Kiamba who would score the third one in the dying moments of the match leaving Nairobi with no time of scoring a consolation.

In a post-match interview with Citizen Digital Machakos captain Nicholas Kyalo praised his team for winning this year’s KICOSCA edition while adding that having youthful team in the squad was the reason they edged Nairobi.

“I thank our Governor Dr.Alfred Mutua for employing youths because we have proved strong to Nairobi because our squad is young compared to that of Nairobi and I challenge other governors to employ youths if they want to win this competitions,’’ he said.

Machakos won 4-1 against Busia in the Semifinals while Nairobi had won 4-2 against Kisumu in the penalty shootout after 1-1 in the normal time.

In other football final Kwale County Assembly eased 1-0 past Siaya to win this year’s County Assembly Sports Association (CASA) edition in Machakos University.

Elsewhere Uasin Gishu County Executive Men and Women teams won this year’s Volleyball edition easing past Nakuru and Kericho respectively.

The men team won by 3-1 sets of 27-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16 while the Women team won 3-0 sets of 25-22,25-18 and 25-23.

It was a mouthwatering finale for Men as Nakuru who has been the runners up for the last four years put a strong performance winning the first set with Uasin Gishu tearing them in the other sets.

Siaya County Assembly was given a walkover in CASA men Volleyball final after Nairobi MCAs failed to honour the tie.

The county also topped in the Athletics winning 38 medals while Narok came second with Kisumu County bagging the third position.

KICOSCA management will now embark on team selection in every discipline to represent Kenya for EALA games slated for Uganda next month.
