Machakos, Kisii book quarter-final slots in KICOSCA Games after emphatic wins
Defending champions Machakos County booked a football quarter-finals slot in the ongoing Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games, taking place in Kisii County with a 3-0 win over Nandi County.
Fredrick Kiamba, Caleb Muisyo and Frestus kikovu scored for Machakos in the 15th ,25th and 75th minute respectively, to seal the win.
In another match played at the same venue, Dr Ongechi Ratemo scored twice and provided an assist for Adoli Ricavo as host Kisii qualified to the quarter finals with an impressive 3-1 win over Mombasa, a result that pleased head coach Henry Motego.
“We are improving game by game, and we are ready to face any side. With the home support we are getting I’m sure we can win the football title,”said the former Kenya international.
His sentiments were echoed by his star player and Captain Dr Ongechi Ratemo
“We are treating every game as a final, we hope the trophy will remain in Kisii,” Ratemo said
Mombasa coach Omar Kamara blamed the loss on poor officiating,
“The referee was biased, she awarded them a penalty and never protected my players from the dangerous fouls that our opponents were committing,” lamented Omar.
Elsewhere, Mombasa County successfully defended the draught title .The champions scored 16 points to retain the gong they won last year in Machakos as Embu County came second with 13 points, while Kilifi finished third with 11 points. Nairobi County was fourth with 10 points as Uasin Gishu wrapped up the top five on 9 points.
In pool quarter finals, Laikipia beat Nyeri 3-1, while Narok won 3-1 against the host Kisii as Bomet knocked out Machakos 3-2,while Embu beat Nyandarua 3-2.
In other matches, Nakuru lost 3-1 to Kjiado while Samburu were beaten Kitui by 3-2 as West pokot beat Muranga county 3-1.
In the women basketball, Nairobi will face Uasin Gishu in the finals tomorrow after defeating Machakos 56-20 in the semis, while Uasin Gishu beat Bungoma 46-23.
In the men’s category, Kiambu will face Nakuru in the final after winning their semi final match against Uasin Gishu 37-27, while Nakuru defeated Bungoma 34-20, while in net ball, Siaya won 25-22 against Busia, Mombasa beat Kisii 40- 13, while Nyamira defeated Nakuru 36-25.
