Mad rush in transfer window as teams bolster squads

Ugandan coach Paul Nkata has hit the ground running at Kakamega Homeboyz by signing former Tusker ace George Mandela to a two-year deal.

Mandela makes a return from the cold after being unceremoniously released by the brewers in January amid claims of absconding duty.

Also joining the club on a two-year deal is Benjamin Oketch from Chemelil Sugar. Posta Rangers have also brought on board former Thika United veteran Samuel Mwanje on a free transfer.

The Ugandan had been unattached after being released by Thika at the end of the 2017 season.

The Sammy Omollo “Pamzo” coached side hopes that the injection of new players will arrest an already dismal season which is a far cry from its commendable exploits in the 2017-18 season where they finished fourth. The club is further expected to strengthen its attacks in the coming days.

Mwanje is the second recruitment the club has made so far in this transfer window after signing Edwin Lavatsa from Tusker. The mailers hope that the gangly former Mathare and Gor Mahia marksman will add more precision to its spineless attacking line.

In a rather shocking turn of events, Jonathan Lokadet has left Nzoia Sugar for National Super League side KCB on a permanent  term. The young sensation’s shock move is understood to be in search of more playing time after falling further behind the midfield pecking order at Nzoia United. Despite the move being construed as a demotion based on the seniority of the league, it could be instrumental to his career development. After spending last season on loan at Sofapaka, Morven Otinya will be on the road again in the second leg of the season after being loaned yet again to Vihiga United.

Vihiga United seem to have made the most of this transfer window after snapping up Philip Muchuma from Chemelil Sugar. Muchuma was instrumental to Chemelil finishing 10th in the first half of the league after finding the back of the net five times.

He underlined his scoring prowess by netting a hat- trick against league struggler’s Nakumatt at Machakos Stadium. Based on his former displays and the recent introduction of John Mururi as deputy coach to Edward Manoah, the Vihiga United faithful can only be optimistic.

Meanwhile, after losing Piston Mutamba to high-flying Sofapaka, Wazito FC has acted swiftly to replace him with youngster Chris Owino as they bid to climb higher in the league.

Wazito is placed 15th on the KPL log after blowing hot and cold since the campaign began.
