Makumbi demands more from strikers as Stima drops points

National Super League (NSL) side Western Stima head coach Richard Makumbi has blamed his striking department for failing to win in the last three matches, hinting to recruit ”serious” goal poachers in the June transfer window.

Makumbi, will sign at least two more strikers when the window opens, a declaration he made after seeing the former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side settle for a 1-1 stalemate against FC Talanta on Friday, at Camp Toyoyo.

It took a last-gasp strike by left back Geoffrey Ochieng to rescue a point for the Power men, after Paul Karuri had sent Talanta into the lead in the 21st.

Fresh from the scare, the Ugandan tactician blamed his ”blunt” frontline for the woes warning to crack the whip on the non-performrs.

“I have seen we are creating many chances but we fail to win matches. I am looking for two top strikers because in the second leg I don’t want this trend continue.

“Our target remains to get back to the top tier league, but with this tendency we are slowly drifting from it. We can only realise our dream if only my players do what is expected,” he charged.

Last weekend draw saw Stima’s lead on the log reduced to only four points, with second-placed Ushuru (32) still boasting of a match in hand.

Ushuru edged out Bidco United 0-1 at the Thika Stadium courtesy of a first-half strike by Benson Amianda, pile pressure on Stima who have 36.

The second tier league leaders will now break for the transfer window business after playing their round 18 ties, but their counterparts are set for the break after weekend’s matches.

Nairobi Stima also notched a third win in as many matches to move to third with 31 points from 17 matches. In their Saturday outing, they dispatched rivals KCB 2-1 at the Karuturi Grounds, consequently switching places with the Bankers.

The latter sit fourth on the log following the loss, with 30 points, similar to fifth-placed Kibera Black Stars, who however have an inferior goal difference.

Black Stars came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win over visiting Kisumu All-Stars at Camp Toyoyo on Friday.

Former KPL side Nakuru All Stars also notched their second win of the season, narrowly edging Modern Coast Rangers 2-1 at the Afraha Stadium.

Newcomers Green Commandos, for the fourth time in a row, dropped points, this time at the hands of Nairobi City Stars in a 1-1 draw at their home turf Bukhungu Stadium.
