Malindi, Mkomani Clubs earn draw in boxing friendly

Boxing Club of Malindi earned a draw in a match against Mkomani Club from Mombasa.

The two clubs finished with a 12-12 score in a friendly contest organized in Blue Marlin Sporting Resort, in Malindi County on Saturday, August 28.

Club Mkomani, under trainer Ibrahim Rejje, were the favorite to emerge with a landslide victory in the tournament but the hosts stood firm to offer fierce resistance.

Mkomani began to dictate the proceedings by earning a walk over in the light-fly category when Kraish Hudheifa of Malindi failed to show up against Mohammed Said.

Mkomani continued well when Abdallah Bakari defeated Musa Kazen on points in the light-weight category.

But the locals came back with vengeance in the middle weight fight, when Calvin Ochieng took one minute to floor Nicholus Mwangia of Mkomani Club while Ishmael Asoka also of Malindi silenced Isaac Omar in the light heavy weight.

In a special under 15 years girls category, Bahati Juma defeated Sophia Ali in the flyweight while for the boys Malindi’s Patrick Malingi walked away with maximum points against Swaleh Ali of Mkomani.

Isaiah Odhiambo of Malindi forced Gabriel Nyawade of Mkomani to surrender in the second round of the battle for the welter weight title after Odhiambo landed quick heavy punches on him.

Both clubs used the friendly tournament to prepare for the Coast League that starts next week.
