Malkia fall to Brazil, face Dominican in make or break tie

Malkia Strikers have been left with a mountain to climb in their final Group D match against Dominican Republic set for 10.10am tomorrow after falling 3-0 to Brazil on Wednesday at the FIVB World Championship in Japan.

Malkia Strikers who needed a win against the Brazilians to reignite their hopes of making it to the second round went down with straight sets of 25-13, 25-10, and 25-16 against the world beaters .

Following Puerto Rico’s straight sets win against Dominican Republic, the Japheth Munala coached side who play the latter  tomorrow must win with straight sets and higher sets ratio to make it to the second round.

Puerto Rico, on six points,  occupy the fourth position which is the final berth for second round qualification, and Malkia, who sit fifth with three points hopes the latter loses their final match against Serbia and they win against Dominican to achieve their dream.

Dominican, Malkia’s Thursday opponents, sit third on the Pool D standings jointly with Puerto Rico boasting higher sets ratio difference.

Elsewhere, Africa’s other representatives in the three-week championship Cameroon, were also left with a mountain to climb after going down with straight sets against the hosts Japan on Wednesday.

The 2017 African champions must now defeat winless Argentina with straight sets and a higher different ratio on Thursday in their final Pool A matches to qualify to the next round.

The championship which has attracted 24 teams across the globe, will serve out on October 20.
