Malkia Strikers await Senegal test after routing Nigeria

Veteran middle blocker Brackcides Khadambi racked up eight points to lead Kenya’s 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, 25-10) rout of Nigeria on their African Women’s Volleyball Championship opener at the Palais des Sports in Yaounde.

It was the start Coach Japheth Munala would have wished for as the defending champions began their chase for a first World Championship appearance since Japan 2010 having missed out on the Italy 2014 edition.

The Malkia Strikers resume action on Sunday where they will take on Senegal at the five-day tournament which also doubles as the 2018  FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship CAVB Qualifier.

Host nation Cameroon also enjoyed a straight-sets victory, 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-17) over Botswana, while Senegal had to dig deep to hold off DR Congo 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15).

Both finalists from the continental competition will book their tickets for Japan 2018.
