Malkia Strikers draw Cameroon in Africa Games

National women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, will renew rivalry with Cameroon in All African Games after landing in the same group ahead of the competition which starts on August 19-31 in Morocco.

According to the draws released by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) on Tuesday, Malkia Strikers have been paired alongside the African champions, Senegal and Algeria in Group ‘B’.

This comes barely one month after the West Africans denied Kenya a record tenth extending African Women Championship title after winning by 3-2 sets in an epic final in Cairo, Egypt.

That was the second time in as many years Cameroon was standing between Malkia’s success after 3-1 sets defeat in 2017 when the Jean-René Akono coached side won their maiden Africa title.

In May, under the tutelage of FIVB-attached coach Shailene Ramdoo, the Kenyan queens clinched the single Zone V Africa Games ticket in qualifiers held in Uganda and in Morocco they will be eyeing to defend their 2015 title they won in Congo, Brazzaville.

The nine-time Africa champions jetted back to the country on Tuesday evening from Italy after falling short in the Inter-continental Olympic Games qualifiers.

In the championship held in Catania,Italy, Malkia did not record any single win losing all matches on straight sets against world-beaters Italy, Netherlands and Belgium.

The four-time Africa Games winners are scheduled to jet out for Morocco on August 14 where build-up matches with the hosts are lined-up before the serve-off.

In the other pool, hosts Morocco will start their quest against Botswana, Mauritius and Nigeria.

In men’s contest, Pool ‘A’ has hosts Morocco, Nigeria, Mauritius and Botswana while Algeria faces off with Egypt, Cape Verde and Cameroon in Pool ‘B’
