Malkia Strikers not on downward spiral- Lung’aho

National women’s volleyball team technical director David Lung’aho says despite falling to Cameroon for the second time in two years in Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship finals, Malkia Strikers are not on their downward spiral.

Malkia Striker’s hopes of clinching a record extending 10th continental crown went up in the smoke after losing to holders Cameroon 3-2 in a scintillating final in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday night but Lung’aho is confident his charges will right their wrongs ahead of busy August where Olympic Games qualifiers and All African Games are all lined up.

This was the second time in as many years Cameroon was standing between Malkia Strikers’ success after winning their maiden Africa title in 2017 by 3-1 sets against the Kenyan queens, and the West African heavyweights are now seen as the Kenya’s new found opponents. Traditionally Kenya has received stiff competition from North African teams especially Egypt.

“We live to fight another day and we are going back to the drawing board to correct our mistakes because no rest as August is full of action,” Lung’aho who doubles up as the Kenya Prisons,  tactician wrote on his facebook account after his team failed to reclaim their title.

The Shailene Ramdoo coached side on Monday afternoon was hosted to a luncheon by Kenya’s Ambassador to Egypt Jeff Otieno at a Cairo hotel and the contingent is scheduled to depart for Nairobi aboard Egypt Air at 2145hours to arrive at 3.30am tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

With the Africa fiesta now in the backburner, the Kenyan queens are scheduled to fly out again for Olympic Games qualifiers which will be played in Italy from August 2-4 where they are scheduled to face World Championships runners up Italy then Netherlands and Belgium.

The team will be eyeing to return to Olympics tourney set for Japan next year after a 15-year drought, with their last outing dating back to 2004 where they finished at position 11, similar to the previous and first outing in 2000.

Immediately after Italy assignment, Malkia will head to Morocco to defend their 2015 All African Games title from August 16 -30.
