Malkia Strikers overpower Senegal to reach final

The Kenya women’s volleyball team swept into the Africa Nations Championship final with a straight sets victory over Senegal on Saturday in Cairo, Egypt.

Their 25-13,25-13, 25-19 success over the Senegalese brought Malkia Strikers one step away from a 10th continental crown by setting up a final showdown against either Egypt or defending champions Cameroon.

Malkia Strikers head coach Shaileen Ramdoo made two changes in his star studded starting six, bringing in Kenya Pipeline’s centre Trizah Atuka and right attacker Emmaculate Chemtai for Violet Makuto and Brackside Agala.

It proved a masterstroke with the duo, who started on the bench during Kenya’s stunning fightback against Cameroon, galvanizing the team to blow Senegal away at the October 6 Hall.

Kenya will bag unprecedented 10th title tomorrow if they win the finals after losing 3-1 against Cameroon in 2017 in the finals held in Younde.

After the Africa fiesta, the Kenyan queens are scheduled to fly out for Olympic Games qualifiers which will be played in Italy from August 2-4 where they are scheduled to face World Championships runners up Italy then Netherlands and Belgium.

The team is eyeing to return to Olympics tourney set for Japan next year after a 15-year drought with their last outing dating back to 2004 where they finished at position 11, similar to the previous and first outing in 2000.

Immediately after Italy assignment, Malkia will head to Morocco to defend their 2015 All African Games title from August 16 -30.
