Malkia Strikers train swords on Botswana after Algeria rout

Despite recording straight sets win over Algeria in their opening match yesterday, national women’s volleyball team coach, Japheth Munala is optimistic the Malkia Strikers will show an improved performance on the second match today in the ongoing Women’s African Nations Championship in Cairo, Egypt.

Kenya play Botswana starting from 5:00pm today, 24 hours after outclassing 2015 loosing finalists Algeria in straight sets 3-0(25-19,25-21,25-21).

“As much as we have played  very well in our first game we have managed to win by three sets  and we hope that we are going to improve in the next game against Botswana and win very convincingly,” Said Munala.

Botswana might not be a tough opponent for the nine-time African champion but Kenya Volleyball Federation technical director David Lung’aho says a win would be good for Kenya before playing current African champions Cameroon.

“…Algeria is also a good team and I hope this will help us improve on areas that we did not do well as we wait on Botswana later today and Cameroon a day after, our hope is to register good results,” he said.

Veteran setter Janet Wanja is also optimistic of better results when they play Botswana.

“Our first match is always difficult, but we hope to show an improved game as the tournament moves on as we have always done in major tournaments,”Wanja told Citizen Digital.
