Malkia Strikers winless in five matches

Kenya National women volleyball team Malkia Strikers are yet to taste a single win in five matches at the Group 2D of FIVB World Grand Prix 2016 tournament following another 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-14)thrashing in Wloclawek, Poland. The African Queens fell to hosts Poland on Saturday, failing to dust themselves off their shocking dip in form.

Mercy Moim put in a captain performance, registering a game-high 11 points for the Kenyan side to her name but could not pull the team past the hosts. Brackcides Khadambi showed a few technical hits but Malkia could not deal with the polish attacking prowess.
The hosts had strong spikes which converted the first set in their favor.

Malwina Smarzek starred for the hosts, raking in13 points.
This is Poland’s second victory who are now third, after Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.

Head Coach David Lung’aho admits that the team played poorly but believes that because of fatigue they have recorded bad results.

” We lost our match against Poland. Poland is a very tough team it just came from Group one and I think we played badly and more specially in the third set and probably the second set but the first set we tried. We made alot of errors in reception but this is the first time we are making errors in reception and this is an error we need to work on before our last match tomorrow’s match against Argentina.” He told Citizen Digital.

“But all in all I think the players have done their best, our best was not good but enough, but we just learnt in Group Two very tough group and we need to step up our preparation if we have to perform in this group. For me as a coach I have to thank all the players for their efforts I think for fatigue also they have played badly, but next time we are going to see how best we can make ourselves have rest before a big tournament.” He added.

Kenya and Canada are the only two teams that remain winless.
Malkia Strikers will get one more shot at redemption as they seek what can only be a consolation win in their last match against Argentina.
