Malkia tonked by Argentina again

Malkia Strikers lost their second friendly match against Argentina in Palpala – Northern Province of Jujuy by straight sets of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-12 on Sunday night.

Head Coach David Lung’aho slammed the side that slumped to a second successive defeat against the Rio 2016 Olympics-bound ‘Las Panteras’saying they need to improve on their reception before for their FIVB World Grand Prix campaign gets underway.

“We played badly and Argentina were well drilled. They were performing well in their basics while we made a lot of mistakes especially in our reception,” Lung’aho said.

“We are going to concentrate on making right our mistakes in our remaining three training sessions and I believe we are going to improve. During these friendly matches there are a lot of factors that fail to your team but the most important thing is that by so playing we have also learnt. We will get better as we progress and you will see this during our first match,” he added.

Kenya has been camping in Argentina since last Tuesday as they prepare for the upcoming Group Two World Grand Prix to be played in Tucuman starting June 4.

Malkia made their debut at elite level in the 1991 World Cup, where they finished 12th and has since appeared in five editions of the FIVB Volleyball World Cup.

Over the five competitions, Kenya has won one game, a 3-0 success against Egypt in 1995.

Four years ago they won three sets, one each in 3-1 defeats by Serbia, Dominican Republic and Algeria, and finished bottom of the standings.

Last year, they finished 10th overall with two victories and nine losses.

Kenya has been drawn against Argentina, Bulgaria and Dominican Republic during the first round of the World Grand Prix with the first match set to be against Argentina.
