Manchester United to splash 90M to land most expensive Real Madrid star

Manchester United are preparing a £90 million transfer for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

Bale is said to be a top target for Manchester United with Vice Chairman Ed Woodward committed to making a third attempt to land the 26-year-old Welsh star in January.

The Red Devils are however understood to rule out a transfer for goalkeeper David De Gea who signed a lucrative 200,000-a-week new deal at Old Trafford.

De Gea’s anticipated move to Real Madrid on the September transfer deadline failed to materialize with both Manchester united and Madrid blaming each other for the breakdown.

United are currently struggling in front of goal, going three matches without seeing the back of the net.

Bayern Munich stars Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski are also on the radar for United.

Bale moved to Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2013 in £85 million transfer, snubbing English Premier League Manchester United.

United made a second attempt to lure Gareth Bale to Old Trafford last summer to no avail.

Despite his stellar performance, Bale has experienced backlash from Madrid fans with reports emerging that he does not get on well with fellow striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

He has been played, in several occasions, in a central role, a position occupied by Ronaldo.

Bale’s prospective move to United has however been complicated by PSG’s interest in Ronaldo, though there are reports that such a move would be unlikely owing to the former United striker’s good relationship with the club hierarchy and fans.

United are seeking to cure their striking headache that has seen them go for 324 minutes without a goal.

The Red Devils, who are currently forth on the log with 21 points, drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in Saturday’s encounter, marking the third match without scoring a goal.

Manchester United had several scoring chances but their efforts were thwarted by Palace’s compact defence and United’s lack of sharpness in front of goal.

Rooney’s first half free-kick was the only effort United had on target while Palace also threatened through Scott Dann’s header and Dwight Gayle’s drive, which was well saved by David De Gea.

It is the first time since 2005 that United have registered three successive goalless draws in all competitions.

The current happenings at the Old Trafford club have raised concerns among United supporters, with the club’s former midfielder Paul Scholes blaming it on lack of creativity and Van Gaal’s ‘boring’ philosophy.

Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said he has no idea what Martial’s best position is, saying the position he is placed is often dictated by the general team composition.

The 19-year-old Frenchman scored his first champions league goal during Manchester United match away at CSKA Moscow a fortnight ago.

Martial now has scored five goals in his Manchester United career, which began in September following his arrival from French club Monaco in a Ksh5.5 billion ($55.5 million) transfer.
