Mashemeji derby raised Ksh.3.1M as Dar clash raked Ksh.24M
The Mashemeji derby pitting AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani,on Sunday raised Sh3.1 million.
AFC Leopards who were the hosts announced Tuesday through a post on its twitter account that club a total of 15,297 tickets were sold with 266 of those occupying the VIP section
However, according to the club, the revenue collected could have been much higher as the government ordered for the gates to be opened to all fans who were still crowded outside to get free access to the Stadium.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, were among the dignitaries in attendance. Gor won 1-0.
Elsewhere, the Kariokor derby between Tanzania’s giants Yanga SC and Simba raised Sh24million. The match was also played on Sunday with Yanga winning 1-0 .
